Mission

Rubicon Prep was created by a passionate team of educators, innovators and researchers who are driven to bring advanced learning tools to the world of mathematics.

Guided by ongoing research at Columbia University, Rubicon Prep is the premier online math community dedicated to helping students reason analytically and think creatively. Harnessing the power of research and technology, we provide educational tools and unmatched expertise to help unleash the genius within our students.

Curriculum

One of the main features of our sophisticated curriculum is flexibility. Carefully selected assignments and materials are integrated into our curriculum from a variety of the best sources, including math textbooks used in Singapore, China, Korea and Russia, places known for mathematical achievement.

This offers varying difficulty levels and more importantly, different explanations. It broadens students’ understanding and expands their horizons. It also allows our teachers to update and custom tailor the curriculum to actual student needs at any time.

Method

The Singapore math method is a highly effective teaching approach originally developed by Singapore’s Ministry of Education for Singapore public schools. The method has been widely adopted in various forms around the world over the past thirty years.

“Russian Math” is built on the foundational principle that the cognitive ability of a child—the power to think and reason—is not predetermined at birth, but can actually be developed over time. And that mathematics is by far the best tool for this development.

We teach math through the Socratic Method by challenging students with guiding questions, so they end up learning the desired material more organically instead of having it thrown at them. In this way, learning is subtler and deeper, and students understand why specific theorems make sense rather than learning them by rote memory—and immediately forgetting them after a test. At Rubicon Prep, each class begins with a challenging but solvable question whose answer becomes the lesson topic. The teacher guides the students through solving the problem and helps them learn how to use their imagination to understand the class topic.

Results

We use quizzes and tests as learning tools to track progress and help students cultivate critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
